CBN directs all Bankers to declare their assets

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has directed all bankers in the 19 deposit banks in the country to declare their assets immediately. In a letter sent to all the banks through the Banking Supervision Department of the CBN, the apex bank mandated all bankers to declare their assets through a court affidavit. Insiders say the move is not unconnected with the anti-corruption campaign of this present administration. Only 3 of the 19 deposit banks have so far had their staff comply with this directive.

Fiji declares public holiday after winning first ever Olympic medal

The tiny pacific nation of Fiji has won its first ever Olympic medal after thumping Great Britain 43-7 in the rugby sevens final to scoop the gold medal.
 
Wild celebrations erupted across the island nation as drivers leapt out of their cars and people took to the streets to wave the national flag, phone carriers offered free calls.  Fiji Airways, the national carrier, announced the only beer it will serve on today will be Fiji Gold, a popular local beverage; and the government declared August 22 a national holiday to mark the win.

CBN Directs BDCs not to Sell FOREX above 2% Margin of Buying Rate

cbnThe Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) on Tuesday directed Bureau De Change (BDCs) operators not to sell foreign exchange above two per cent margin of the buying rate.
This is contained in a statement in Lagos signed by W.D Gotring, the Acting Director, Trade and Exchange Department of CBN.

Army alerts Nigerians of plans by Boko Haram members to attack FCT, Imo, Katsina,others

Nigerian Army has released a statement alerting the public of plans by Boko Haram to attack some locations in Nigeria. According to the statement, the group plans to attack police stations in Abuja, Kano, Sokoto and Kebbi state while a prison in Adamawa is also being targeted. The statement adds that the sect members are also planning to attack market places in Imo, Bauchi and Katsina state. The statement adds that schools that are presently in session in Yobe, Adamawa and Borno state are also at risk.

Lagos threatens to confiscate buildings used as hideouts by criminals

The Lagos State Government on Tuesday warned that any building used as hideouts by kidnappers, vandals and other criminal elements in any part of the State would henceforth be confiscated and taken over by government.

The State Government, while vowing that it would henceforth scale up enforcement of restriction of commercial motorcycles, popularly called Okada, on certain routes and ban on street trading, said security agencies have been placed on red alert and that there shall no longer be any hiding place for criminal elements in any part of the State.

Anambra state police command yesterday uncovered a startling cache of bullets buried underground on a land in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State yesterday August 9th. Briefing newsmen at the site where the bullets were buried, the state police commissioner, Sam Okaula, said the bullets were discovered while the foundation of a building project for a community member was being dug.
