Nigerian doctor pleads guilty to illegal distribution of painkillers

A Nigerian doctor is getting some time in the US for the illegal distribution of painkillers. Apparently it's the same doctor who was convicted of molestation 2 years ago and suspended from the Physicians Association in Indiana.

FHM's sexiest woman in the world is Jennifer Lawrence

 Oscar winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has been named the sexiest woman in the world by FHM magazine. Rihanna came third while Beyonce came 7th and Scarlett Johansson is number 10. Their annual FMH 100 Sexiest was released today.

Nigerians are world’s heaviest users of Automated Teller Machines (ATM) - Report


According to a recently released study by EY, a global business and financial advisory firm, Nigerian bank customers have been rated the heaviest users of Automated Teller Machines in the world. The study also rated Nigeria as one of the top three countries whose bank customers use social media when making decisions on selecting a financial service provider. The study also shows that Nigerian bank customers have the highest banking sensitivity and are the second highest globally to close accounts based on poor experience.

Chibok schoolgirls 'alive' & deal is 'within reach' - hostage negotiator claims

A hostage negotiator in direct contact with the kidnappers of more than 200 schoolgirls in Nigeria tells Channel 4 News their safe release is "within reach", but that their fate rests on a knife-edge.
The girls, we believe, are alive but they have been moved from the location to which they were originally taken," the intermediary told Channel 4 News. "It would not be hard to engineer a deal. It looks like they want to release them."

P-Square's publicist releases statement, says he never said it was all a publicity stunt

Yesterday P-Square's publicity Bayo Adetu was quoted as saying the fight between the brothers was all a publicity stunt, and that they all decided to play along. Well, after the backlash from fans, Mr Adetu has backtracked and claims he never made those comments. A statement he released below.

Work in progress on light rail system construction in Lagos

The proposed light rail system being constructed by the Lagos state government in partnership with the World Bank is coming up well, with the rail tracks now being laid on the flyover rail-bridge that would run from Orile down to the island. On Tuesday Aprill 22, at the Civic Centre, VI, Lagos,  Mr. Lateef Ibirogba (the Commissioner for Information & Strategy, Lagos State) presented to the public his book titled “Giants of History: The Making of Our World” as well as an accompanying card game “The Game of Giants”.

In attendance at the event were the governors of Lagos and Osun States, along with representatives from other states in the south west of Nigeria. 14 year old Endia Martin (pictured above) was killed on Monday April 28th by another 14 year old girl after they argued on Facebook about a boy. Is this what 14 year olds should be doing? Fighting over boys and killing each other? My goodness!

Nigerian pleads guilty to terror charges in the US

33 year old Lawal Olaniyi Babafemi (pictured above) yesterday Tuesday April 29th pleaded guilty to terror charges in a US court. The Nigerian citizen is accused of providing material support to an al Qaeda affiliate, and participating in its media and recruitment campaigns, Reuters reports.

Pres. Jonathan cancels FEC to mourn VP Sambo’s brother

President Jonathan has directed that today's Federal Executive Meeting be shelved to enable members of the council attend the 3-day prayer for VP Sambo's deceased brother, late pilot Yusuf Sabo Sambo, who died in a fatal accident on Sunday April 27th along the Bill Clinton Drive, Airport road, Abuja.
Sam Nwaobasi, the Special Assistant (Media) to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation announced the suspension of the meeting.

Mothers and other aggrieved indigenes of Chibok, Borno, yesterday staged a protest at the National Assembly calling on the government to speed up the release of their daughters that were kidnapped from the Government Girls Secondary school on April 14th.

Dead blue whale 'might explode' in Newfoundland town

The residents of a town on Canada's Newfoundland island fear a blue whale carcass that washed up on its boardwalk last week could explode at any time.
The 25m (81ft) whale on Trout River's rocky beach is one of several believed to have died in heavy ice weeks ago.

Abducted schoolgirls allegedly married off for N2,000, moved abroad

OK, here's seriously hoping that this is not true. But according to reports, the 234 girls abducted at Government Girls College on April 15th may have been married off for N2,000 each and may also have been removed from the Nigeria to neighbouring countries like Chad and Cameroon.

Sad day for Nollywood. Prolific director Amaka Igwe passes on @51

Foremost producer, writer, director and a leading player in the Nigerian motion picture industry, Amaka Igwe has passed on. She died last night April 28th in Enugu after an asthma attack. Mrs Igwe had gone to Enugu in company of her husband for pre-production preparations for a new Igbo soap when the sad incident occurred.

She suffered an asthma attack and was immediately rushed to the hospital after initial intervention had failed but sadly died before getting there. 

Mrs Igwe is survived by her husband of 21 years Charles Igwe, three children, an aged mother. So sad! May her soul rest in peace...amen. Continue...

Delta bursary fraud whistleblower arrested in Lagos & taken to Delta state

According to a report by SR, Ambrose Ezewani, an ex student of the University of Lagos and former President of the National Association of Delta State students, UNILAG chapter, who blew the lid on a systematic student bursary racketing allegedly spearheaded by the Commissioner for Higher Education in Delta state, Mr Hope Eghagha has been handed over to the Delta state Government

Police officers in Sabo Station yesterday afternoon handed him over after the Delta State officials visited to ask for his transfer to Asaba, Delta State where he will be most likely tortured and “tried” for revealing the fraud perpetrated by officials of the state.
Ezeanwani was President of the National Association of Delta State Students Union at the University of Lagos. During his tenure, he revealed that the bursary system was fraught with fraud, which he said was being perpetrated by men in the scholarship board in Delta State. Continue...

EFCC arrests 6 suspects for N5.5m bank fraud

Five persons have been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, over allegation of fraudulent transfer of a total of N5, 550,000.00 (Five Million, Five Hundred and Fifty Thousand Naira) from an account in Skye Bank.
The suspects, Ademola Okunlola, 36; Tajudeen Oluwanisola, 41; Kolawole Adams, 52; Temitope Pedro, 27; Bayo Olowoyo, 39 and Otunba Biodun Adebanjo, 56, were picked up in different locations in Lagos by operatives of the anti- graft agency for allegedly effecting the fraudulent transfer of N5, 550,000.00 from the account of one Ajani Kareem Musibau domiciled in Skye Bank Plc. NBA bans racist Clippers owner, Sterling, for life; fines him $2.5m

Donald Sterling, the L.A Clippers owner who was caught on tape making disgusting racist comments to his girlfriend (read here) has been banned for life from the NBA and fined $2.5 million, which is the max fine that can be imposed under NBA rules. Under the ban, the 81 year old can't go to games, attend practices, make decisions regarding the team or attend NBA meetings.

Teacher stabbed to death at Leeds school by 15 year old student

Ann Maguire, 61, is the first teacher to be killed in the classroom of a British school. She was stabbed in the neck in front of pupils at the Corpus Christie Catholic College school in Leeds.

BBC reports that the Spanish teacher was taken to the hospital following the attack but was later pronounced dead. A 15-year-old boy was later arrested for her murder and is in custody.
A pupil at the scene told the BBC that children were seen screaming and running from a classroom following the attack. Continue...

Alison-Madueke gets court injunction stopping reps from probing N10b jet scandal

Minister of Petroleum, Dieziani Alison-Madueke, who has been in the middle of a 10bn jet scandal has secured a court injunction stopping the House of Representatives from further investigating her, Premium Times reports. Alison-Madueke had approached a federal high court in Abuja where she asked the court to restrain the House members to discontinue any probe involving her.

Mother of girl brutalized by drunk policeman lands in psychiatric care

The grieving mother of Funmilayo Adebayo who was brutalized by a drunken policeman in Lagos last December landed in psychiatric care last Thursday, family sources told Sahara Reporters at the weekend.

The video clip of the horrible incident recently went viral on the Internet, showing a drunk policeman who was subsequently identified as Tafa Mohammed, brutalizing 2 women at Lewis Street, in Lagos.

Family sources said the mental state of Bose Williams deteriorated following the incident last Dec. Although she was said to have developed prior symptoms in 2007, her children said her condition was under control until she saw the video of Mohammed’s brutalization of her daughter. Continue..

Woman kills her own new born child because he looked like her ex-boyfriend

18-year-old Ana Rosa Mora (pictured above) has been arrested for killing her own child because the the new born looked like her ex-boyfriend. Ana wrapped her baby in a bag and left him outside to die because she feared the child looked like her ex-boyfriend and her current boyfriend would leave her.

The Chicago Tribune reports that the teen gave birth last weekend and attended school on Monday after allegedly committing the act and even showed staff members pictures of a newborn girl that she claimed she downloaded from the Internet.

But after employees noticed strange behavior - such as the girl asking if authorities could link her to the child through DNA and lying about the baby's age - they alerted authorities. Continue...

'My uncle has been sleeping with me since 2013' 12yr old girl reveals

Anthony Wayas (pictured left) a resident of Finima community in Bonny LGA of Rivers State has been accused by his 12 year old niece of having sex with her since 2013, Tribune reports.
 
Anthony, who is the brother to the girl's father took responsibility for her after her father passed away when she was just a year old. By the time she turned 12, he started having sex with her.
 
His evil act came to light on Monday April 21 after the girl told her neighbour what her uncle was doing to her. The neighbour then told another neighbor who told the youth leader in the community and Anthony was accosted in his home where he was badly beaten and had to be rescued by the police.
