DSS operatives manhandle journalist in Awka

The operatives of the Department of State Security DSS, on Sunday beat the cameraman of Silverbird Television ,Mr Dele Ajayi to stupor at the state secretariat of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission, Awka.
According to an eye witness, men of the DSS pounced on the cameraman when he attempted to take some shot, alleging that he got them in the shots.
All attempts by the cameraman to make them see reason fell on deaf ears as they smashed his camera, ceased it alongside his other personal belongings.

It took the intervention of an assistant commissioner of police, Mr Joseph Aguguosi, before the smashed camera was released, while the camera man was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical attention over the injuries he sustained as a result of the beatings.
Some other security agents that witnessed the incident expressed shock over the over zealousness and aggression of the SSS men against the journalist who was just doing his official duty.
Meanwhile, Ajayi said he has put the experience behind him and that he would not be deterred from doing his job.
The matter has been reported to the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists , Anambra state council, Mr Henry Nwasike who promised to look into it.
